I went to watch Golden Compass last night, and the movie itself was excellent, but throughout the movie I found myself thinking about the trailer I saw before the movie started. Even more interesting, was that the movie's title was NEVER mentioned. There are several viral marketing websites with information, but I am new to this sorta thing and have no clue.

It showed some people hosting a goodbye party for some guy named Rob. Then the lights go out and there is some roaring noise in the background. Then the power comes back and they turn on the news and hear about how people have heard a roaring noise. Then fireballs start falling and the Statue of Liberty's head gets knocked off and lands on the street.

The whole trailer seemed to be filmed from Rob's POV using his camcorder. The lack of information about the movie and how its filmed using someones camcorder is exactly like the Blair Witch Chronicles.

Anyone seen this trailer or know anything about it or is just as interested?

It's been around since summer, anyone who went to see transformers has seen the trailer. Also it has been on youtube about the same time as well.

The movie will most likely be a remake or update of the monster movies form the old hollywood era with today technologies and setting. Also the name "Cloverfield", according to the director is just a codename, like blue harvest was to the return of the jedi.

The final version of the film may not be entirely in first person view, according to poopshoot.com. Their words, not mine.

Yeah, I remember being really intrigued by the trailer that preceded Transformers...upon leaving the theater, my friends and I spent more time discussing the teaser than the actual film.

Glad to see that it has a title now, if only a fake one. It seems so much more tangible than "untitled J.J. Abrams project." But it has to have a permanent name soon, doesn't it? It opens in a month! I'd expect TV spots to begin appearing within a week, two at the latest. Otherwise the film is probably doomed to fail, because no one will know what the heck it is.

edit: I can't read...it debuts on the 18th of January, not the 8th. That leaves a little more time than I initially thought.

yeah this trailer is different from the one that was shown with Transformers.
There where rumors that it was supposed to be a live action Voltron Movie.

It's just a lame trick to get people interested. And for using such lame tricks the movie is alredy stupid in my eyes :P

I've heard things about it being Voltron (or other old franchises) or Ktulu, but I don't think it'll be any of those. But it definitely looks awesome.

I read somewhere that it is definitely not Voltron and Godzilla because someone else is going to make a Voltron Movie sometime in the future and that Godzilla's Rights are owned by another company. He also states the Monster is sometihng he came up with himself.

I just hope it is not a Lost tie in because I don't watch Lost.

I'm not terribly hyped about it, but the way it's filmed is certainly different. I'm gonna be seeing it tomarrow with some buddies, then it's Wendy's time!

I think it'll be interesting, anyway. I've read a couple of places that it was filmed documentary-style reminiscent of The Blair Witch Project. Watching The BWP gave me motion sickness lol. So, I'll have to take some Dramamine along with me, I guess...

nah just get there early, sit in the back of the theater to where the screen doesn't engulf your vision and you can see the sides of it, with a stationary object both sides of the screen the illusion of motion is gone.

I'm trying to decide whether to go see this or not. I've heard a lot say Godzilla, then another say that it's a new monster... and I too am wondering if it will be filmed documentary style as I think it would make me sick watching that on the big screen.

I'm supposed to be seeing it tonight but if the whole thing is going to be like Blair Witch that's a HUGE turn off.
